Get your pots washed and your fire ready...it's time to cook-up some chili at the 2011 Wagonmasters Downtown Chili Cookoff, Saturday, September 24 in Wichita, KS.
With teams from Kansas and surrounding states, the Cookoff has been a Wichita tradition for 27 years. In 2005, the Wichita Wagonmasters took over the event and brought it back to its original site in Downtown Wichita. This move was received with overwhelming enthusiasm by contestants and attendees alike and created a renewed excitement for the event.
Since the return to Douglas Avenue, the crowds have responded in great numbers. And here's the best part...the weather doesn't matter! Hot or mild, heck even if it's cold, it's chili weather! We expect the crowd to be approximately 8,000-10,000 strong. People come because they know they can taste some of the best competition chili in the Midwest!
Not only will our contest decide the Kansas State champion, but also teams are competing to go to the 2011 ICS World's Championship Chili Cookoff. We award $500 prize money in four different categories and the Grand Champion takes home $1,000 in a contest that judges not only their chili but booth design and spirit as well.
